Scende la notte - Night falls

Il sole è ora nascosto dietro la montagna. La sua luce illumina ancora gran parte dell' orizzonte Ovest, ma so che presto l'oscurità prenderà possesso delle ore rimanenti e le stelle, prima lievi e poi più intense, come se si stessero lentamente alzando dal nulla, tappezzeranno il cielo. Un'altra notte sta per iniziare. Ho pianificato la mia sessione di astrofotografia per fotografare Sharpless 261, una debole nebulosa a emissione nella costellazione di Orione. La luna sorgerà a mezzanotte circa e avrò solo 4 ore per gli scatti. Dedicherò queste 4 ore al filtro H-alpha, 15 minuti di esposizione base binning 1 con la mia configurazione "leggera": Takahashi FSQ 106N e camera ccd SBIG STF8300M con filtri Baader a banda stretta. Il seeing non è granché, ma non importa: l'occhio elettronico ha voglia di guardare. Da domani le condizioni meteorologiche peggioreranno. Dovrò aspettare un po' per il resto.

The sun is now hidden behind the mountain. Its light still illuminates much of the West horizon, but I know that soon the darkness will take possession of the remaining hours and the stars, first mild and then more intense, as if they were slowly rising from nowhere, will wallpaper the sky. Another night is about to begin. I have planned my astrophotography session to take a picture of Sharpless 261, a faint emission nebula in the constellation of Orion. The moon will rise at midnight and I will only have about 4 hours for the shots. I will dedicate these 4 hours to the H-alpha filter, 15 minutes of unbinned subexposures with my "light" setup: Takahashi FSQ 106N and SBIG STF8300M ccd camera with Baader narrowband filters. Seeing is not that great, but it doesn't matter: the electronic eye wants to look. From tomorrow the weather conditions will worsen. I will have to wait a while for the rest.
